Why environmental sustainability?
Today I want to talk about why environmental stewardship is so important for Sepire.
The EPA’s definition of environmental stewardship is: “the responsibility for environmental quality shared by all those whose actions affect the environment.”
A more pragmatic definition of environmental stewardship is: the world’s collective responsibility to minimize adverse impacts on nature and its inhabitants. Environmental stewardship is as much an individual responsibility as it is an enterprise responsibility.
We (us, you, me, corporations, small businesses, governments, etc.) are all responsible for cultivating sustainability and protecting the world’s ecosystems.
Why is environmental stewardship important?
We depend on our planet - it fulfills mankind’s necessities. Oxygen, water, food, shelter, medicine. You name it.
Forests, in particular, are very important. We rely on forests for resources, clean water, and fresh air. Forests sustain billions of lives around the globe and house almost half of the world’s species. They also provide watershed protection, stop soil erosion, and lessen climate change. In recent months, we’ve seen just how devastating the effects of climate change can be. Australia’s forests have suffered irreparable damage.
That’s why it’s critical for people, governments, business, etc. to prioritize green operations and environmental sustainability. It requires a unified effort.
How does Sepire practice environmental stewardship?
One of our goals is to minimize our environmental footprint. Because we believe in making our planet a better place to live.
To accomplish this, we embody and follow the UN Global Compact’s principles for corporate sustainability. Their environmental values set the standard for corporate environmental stewardship:
“Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.”
“Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.”
“Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.”
And we set up our facilities based on this standard. From LED lights to recycling practices, to our presses - which don’t have Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) - we want our operations to be environmentally mindful. As a signatory of the UN Global Compact and its principles, Sepire is committed to creating a culture of integrity. It takes constant adaptation, self-assessment, and accountability.
